I might be clueless...
Our area Children's Services Board has a campaign, to get parents and kids to eat together.  They are asking parents to pledge to eat with their children at least 4 nights a week.  Okay, I am probably clueless...but we eat together every night.  I just assumed everyone did.   Help me out here, why aren't parents eating meals with their children?  Do you eat with your kids?  I'm not trying to judge, I'm really trying to figure this one out?  Where do parents go when kids are eating?  Why is there a campaign to get parents to eat with their kids??????

I almost always eat with my kid. The only time I don't is perhaps once in awhile when she insists that she wants to eat in front of the tv with some show I hate, or sometimes I'll eat my breakfast in bed because no child should ever watch the morning news. We do often watch tv while we eat, but it's just the two of us, it's not like we have a family of five that only have family dinner time to catch up.

When I was a teenager, my mom and I ate separately in our bedrooms. I'm assuming that's what happens for families nowadays? I'm never going to routinely do that with my daughter--teens especially need to know their parents are watching like hawks.

I agree 100% that teens need to know their parents are watching. I know that's a huge part of what kept me "in line" as a teen. :)

We eat dinner together almost every night. Breakfast is different, though. Sometimes I eat while they're still asleep, then clean while they eat.

When I was a teen, my sister and I were in so many activities that all of us were always going in different directions and my dad worked a ton of overtime, so we rarely saw him, period. Maybe that's part of what happens? I know a lot of my friends have husbands that work late a lot, or even have traveling jobs (Pharm reps and that sort of thing)...that would definitely be tough.

I don't know how people don't manage to eat together at least one meal per day, everyday, though!

Well... I can say that Charlie is almost always eating when Natalie and I are eating - but if I were to eat every time he did then there might be some problems moving since I'd balloon up to mecha-kimmell proportions.

He is a growing boy.

We don't eat every meal together, certainly not 4x a week, mostly because we don't have a dining area in our home anymore - no room. The coffee table really doesn't work for anyone anymore, since eating while lounging on the bed or in front of the computer is what we tend to like to do.

Usually, Ryan takes his dinner into his room, and Ron and I eat in ours, though we rarely eat at the same time. (Ron usually eats an hour or two after dinner's ready, for one reason or another.) Also, Ryan rarely eats what I make anyway, since he's very picky.

I'd like to change things, and when Ryan was younger and we had a table, things were more normal. But now - not so much.
